I was born in Vancouver, BC Canada. While I grew up in Canada, I also grew up in a Korean household. I always had a sense of my Korean identity but moving to Korea for a short while during my adolescent years has deepened my relationship with its culture and more importantly my grandparents. The two are now strongly rooted in my identity and have shaped my values as a human being. However, returning back to Canada felt like coming home and gave me a sense of belonging. My upbringing and experiences with my two different cultural identities have slowly merged into one and made me into who I am today.
I am an industrial designer driven by my inspiration with creating memorable human experiences of interactions with design and art.
Having a diverse range of interest from product designing to projection installations to film production, I realized that my passion comes down to simply creating and expressing narrative through the lens of people's experiences.
Photography is one of my most enjoyed hobbies outside of school projects. I mostly take my camera out to document moments and stories when I am travelling. I like taking pictures of different architectures and landscapes around the world, as well as taking pictures of my friends.
Other than my design and multimedia practices, I also have a passion in sewing and textiles. I particularly enjoy sewing tote bags, as well as altering discarded clothing. Up-cycling old clothing involves creative problem solving within the constraints of the existing form and sizes of the fabric. Although I was mostly self taught, I believe I have the skills to understand the language of sewing, and design my own garments through simple pattern drafting.
